Additive and Impurity Distributions at Grain Boundaries in
Additive and impurity distributions at grain boundaries in sintered Al 2 O 3 were determined using a scanning Auger microprobe transmission electron microscopy metallography and electron probe analysis. The results indicated that Ca was present uniformly at the boundaries as a segregant whereas the Mg or Ni levels observed resulted from nonequilibrium spinel particles.

Abstract. Sintering behavior and performance of high alumina refractory based on the ternary subsystem MgAl 2 O 4-CaAl 4 O 7-CaAl 12 O 19 were investigated using ZrO 2 as an additive up to 8 wt. by solid state reaction sintering. It was found that the added ZrO 2 could dissolve in the CA 6 grains in the form of a solid solution which enhanced the isotropic growth of CA 6 grains and then
